Abstract
In contemporary medicine scrofula is recognized as phlegmasia when a tubercle bacillus permeates throat lymphatic node and is called glandular phthisis.
Nosogenesis mechanism is caused by the exogenous pathogenic factors of wind and heat, the rich taste of drinkables and edibles, the disharmony of seven modes of emotions, the deficiency of Yin of lung and spleen, and the filthiness of the location of drinkables and edibles to make the vital energy of the liver blocked to change into fire to form phlegm. Phlegm is blocked in The Lesser Yang channel and The ¢¥Sunlight¢¥ channel so that tendon is condensed to cause tubercle. This aspect through blocking the vital energy of the liver causes a tubercle in succession in the neck and armpix-a place in which the liver channel circulates and causes a chill and fever, and also causes a pain in the neck and throat, and if this aspect would last in a long period, fire causes an impairment of the vital energy of Yin as to fall into the state of lack of Yin.
The treatment at an early stage, when a phlegm is in the state of efficiency, is to dissipate phlegm, to make meridian channel work well, to clear liver away, and to nourish the blood. And in the case of dificiency as developed, the treatment is to nourish the stomach, the lung, and the spleen.
